Read how we support autistic women and girls to live more fulfilling and authentic lives.

Women's group member:

"I have really liked having a chance to go out and socalise in a group where I feel like I will be understood. For me it has been particularly good that it is an all womens group as other autism groups I have attended have been mostly male. I have found the individual support offered by Aurum really helpful. Most support I have had in the past has been for a set amount of time or has disappeared, it's been important to me having support that I can rely on. Attending the aerial yoga classes through Aurum has been really helpful for managing my anxiety and improving my confidence in my body. Overall I feel like Aurum is helping me improve my confidence and mental health, and has helped me make friends and given me a feeling of belonging."

Parent of autistic girl:

"The groups have provided my daughter a safe, non-judgemental space to explore friendship dynamics and social relationships. This has increased her confidence when interacting with others. The friendships she has made within the groups have expanded to provide her with a peer support network outside of the groups. As a parent one of my biggest worries for my daughter has been loneliness and isolation, seeing her making arrangements with peers, independent of me, is wonderful. I am so proud of her and so grateful to the groups and Natalie's support."

Parent of autistic girl:

"I am so grateful that we found the Aurum group. It has made a huge difference to my daughter. It has given her reasons to get out of the house, events to look forward to, friendships (this is especially important as she has struggled with friendships with neurotypical friends) and she has really enjoyed the yoga and aerial yoga sessions for exercise and relaxation. The individual catch-ups with Natalie have been brilliant as well, this has been very helpful for my daughter, especially at pivotal times when she is struggling with decisions and/or negative thoughts. It has also helped me as it has enabled mt daughter to express her needs more clearly to me. Also communication with other autistic women has helped her to recognise many similar traits so that she doesn’t feel like she is ‘the weird one’. We both attended a brilliant online session with some older autistic women talking about their lives, the impact being autistic has had, and how they navigate the neurotypical world. I only wish we had discovered the group sooner."

Parent of autistic girl:

"Aurum is a wonderful organisation which has been a very useful resource for my daughter, who has complex difficulties, including an autism diagnosis and social anxiety. It has also supported me as a parent. My daughter, has attended the social group for young women held at Wetherspoons. This is the first social outing she has felt able to go to locally in years and she felt able to go because Aurum is so welcoming and provides so much scaffolding. The atmosphere of the group was warm and friendly. She is keen to attend more events when possible and we hope this will really improve her self-esteem. Natalie has also provided generous 1:1 support to me, with helpful advice about available resources and about ways of supporting my daughter in engaging with the community and developing her confidence as well as helping me to think about how to support her as she becomes an adult. She is looking into offering further 1:1 support for my daughter to address her social isolation. This support is supplemented by the parent group which meets regularly online. Parenting a child with complex difficulties can feel very lonely and I am very grateful to Aurum for offering such expert help."

Parent of autistic girl:

"Since we found out about your group, my daughter has really enjoyed coming to the girl's group. She has especially enjoyed your trips out to Longlands farm and Alpaca meadows. She really enjoys that it is a small group, and only for girls. She also enjoys the sessions at Bridge House, especially doing crafts. It has been really good for her to spend time with other children like her, and to understand other peoples different needs. She really looks forward to the girl's monthly meeting."

Women's group member:

"I have found Aurum very helpful to grow my friendships group. It has also made me more confident to talk to different people in the group. The mentoring sessions have helped me a lot especially when I have challenges."
