Aurum is run by a team of autistic women and specialist autism professionals.
Carey has been a registered Mental Health Nurse since 2001. She currently works as the mental health lead/practitioner at Bredon School.
Carey’s previous roles are diverse, beginning with her first post with the NHS in head injury and challenging behaviour, followed by forensic psychiatry in Edinburgh. Carey then returned to her home town in Angus Scotland to work in Tayside Substance misuse service. Carey has a son and daughter who are both autistic. This led her into taking a post in CAMHS Worcestershire where she trained as a DBT nurse therapist.
Claire has been working as an independent advocate for over twenty years. Claire currently leads an advocacy service for a local charity who provide specialist support for survivors of sexual abuse.
In addition to her professional career Claire has a love for Art, and she completed her Master's degree in Art History in 2014. She also commenced a qualification in Therapeutic Life Story Work in 2023.
Claire's daughter received her diagnosis of autism in 2015 when she was 15. Claire has recently become a trustee having observed the positive difference Aurum has made in her daughter's life, and the lives of other women and girls.
Daisy received her autism diagnosis in 2022. She helps with the girl's group and enjoys seeing the girls grow in confidence. Daisy is keen to build awareness of autism.
Elaine is an experienced mentor and coach. She has over 13 years' experience supporting neurodivergent adults working within an autism charity. Elaine has specialised in offering employment support, for people seeking employment and for those already employed. She has considerable experience offering information, advice and guidance and facilitating social discussion groups for autistic adults. She has recently completed a degree in counselling, alongside working in a Further Education college as pastoral support.
Emma has been a member of our women's group since Aurum was set up in 2021. She has experienced first hand the benefits of attending the Aurum groups and receiving individual support from Aurum, and was keen to join the committee so that she could use her experiences to help Aurum develop over the coming years.
Lynn is an experienced autism community services manager and qualified teacher. She has 14 years of experience supporting autistic adults in employment, education, social and discussion groups and through an information, advice and guidance service.
May received her autism diagnosis in 2022. She has a level 4 qualification in drama and performing arts and taught drama classes for 3 years. May's really excited to be a part of the team and is keen to use the skills that she has acquired from her drama background to help support group members.
Michelle received her diagnosis of Autism in 2023 and been a member of our women's group since then. She has hugely benefitted from meeting like minded women and, being an avid knitter, particularly enjoys the craft group. Michelle has had a varied professional career first qualifying and working as an Actuary before moving on to be a secondary school Mathematics Teacher. Alongside this, she is now using her skills to help run Aurum behind the scenes focusing on funding and financial planning.
Natalie received her diagnosis of autism in 2018. She has a PhD in Psychology and over 12 years experience working alongside autistic people and people experiencing mental health difficulties in inpatient and community settings. She is also a Counsellor and trainee Psychotherapist, and has a particular interest in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma.
Rebecca received her diagnosis in 2014 when she was 18. She has recently become a member of the committee and is going to be doing some mentoring as well, which she is really looking forward to. Rebecca says "being part of Aurum has really helped me, so having the opportunity to provide some support for other members is very important to me".
Sara is autistic with several other autistic people in her family. She works with another autism charity leading an autistic women’s discussion group and a parenting group for autistic parents, and additionally works as a trainer and autism specialist mentor. She has a PGDip in Autism (Adults) and is part way through a PhD at the University of Birmingham exploring the experiences of autistic people accessing maternity services. She is committed to improving services for autistic people.
Susan is a chartered accountant and tax adviser who runs her own practice in Malvern, having previously worked for a number of years at KPMG and PwC.
Since her daughter’s diagnosis, Susan has seen at first hand the excellent range of much needed support provided by Aurum and as a member of the Committee is delighted to support its work.
